Are you looking for a dress? We can help.

We have dresses!

Finding your wedding dress can feel a bit overwhelming when you begin.  To help take the edge off we have a few tips on how to prepare for your first time out—particularly if your first stop is The English Dept.  Here are a few tips on what to expect and how to prepare for dress shopping.

It’s always a good idea to have a small group shopping with you.  Having lots of people with lots of thoughts and feedback can definitely lead to chaos.  If you have lots of family and friends who want to share the dress experience with you think about scouting out some places and dresses with just one or two others at first and then inviting the rest to jump in when you’re deciding between a few dresses.

We think brides should be comfortable! Don’t worry about complicated under-things when you’re shopping.

Expect some dress samples to be either too big or too small.  Never fear!  We’re experts at giving you an idea of how a dress will look when it’s cut in the right size.  Some dresses may also require different undergarments, but it’s totally unnecessary to have those when you’re just shopping.  Just wear your normal, comfortable bran and panties (a solid or neutral color does help) and you will find that it’s much easier and less distracting than any strapless, backless bustier you might be tempted to bring along.

Make sure you ask questions, even if you’re embarrassed or worried that you should somehow know the answer already.  Most likely the questions you have and are hesitant to ask are really important.  On a similar note, don’t be afraid to let us know your budget.  Whether it’s $300 or $3000, if there’s a number you’re sticking to we want to help.

Enjoy your shopping, ladies.  We hope to see you soon!
